FAS2554 to local connection

Hi.

We have a FAS2554 system running on our enviroment. FAS is now connected with 10gb ethernet switch vmware cluster (2xproliant ML 380 G8) has also 10gb ethernet connections to same 10gb switch.

this connection is stable and working. But we have few problems....

1. How this setup can be slower than old Apple Xserve who have trunked 2gb connection to the Lan? (now much but anyway, slower)

2. OSX clients crashing randomly when working on CIFS and SMB volume (osx versions are 10.10.4 and 10.10.5)

we are planning to leave vmware and install windows 2012 server's locally to Proliant's to get full

main question is: can we make direct connect FAS2554 to one our proliant, no iscsi no 10gb ethernet, no NAS, just physical connect to server. if answer is yes-->is there any instructions for that? (i'm newbie with netapp)

best regards

Hello, > 1. How this setup can be slower than old Apple Xserve who have trunked 2gb connection to the Lan? (now much but anyway, slower) Are you using LACP Trunks ? Is it properly configured, also on the switch ? > 2. OSX clients crashing randomly when working on CIFS and SMB volume (osx versions are 10.10.4 and 10.10.5) Which version of ONTAP do you use ? You should use version 8.2.4 (7-Mode) or 8.3.2 (cDOT). > main question is: can we make direct connect FAS2554 to one our proliant, no iscsi no 10gb ethernet, no NAS, just physical connect to > server. if answer is yes-->is there any instructions for that? (i'm newbie with neap) No, you can't connect the controller with SAS directly. You have to use NFS or iSCSI over Ethernet. It is best practice and you have many advantages from this point of implementation view. Best regards, Marc
