Hi people.

Can anyone provide me with advantages/disadvantages regarding FAS9000 and the new FAS8700?

Does the FAS9000 now supports 100gb ethernet for NAS like the FAS8700?

Thanks.

Currently there is no 100G card for the FAS9000.

However...   the FAS9000/A700 chassis has some advantages over the other chassis in that it's very modular and pretty easy to add cards later down the line.

FAS9000 does not explicitly mention support for 100GbE for NAS
FAS9000 benefits:
1. High availability and redundancy design ‌ : FAS9000 system is designed with high availability and redundancy features to ensure uninterrupted data service. Its power supply is redundant, meaning that even if one power supply fails, the system can continue to operate through the other power supply, ensuring high availability ‌.
2. Modular design: FAS9000 adopts intelligent modular design to enhance reliability, availability and maintainability. Each HA pair includes dual controllers and four separate slots for NVMe flash, enabling flexible expansion and upgrades.
3. Flexibility and scalability: FAS9000 supports horizontal expansion from 2 nodes to 24 nodes, with a maximum capacity of 138PB to meet changing business needs.
4. Easy maintenance ‌ : The system supports hot swappable power supply units (Psus), which allows power to be replaced while the system is running without having to shut down the system completely, reducing the risk of downtime ‌
FAS8700 benefits:
1. High performance and scalability: FAS8700, as a mid-to-high-end hybrid flash array, can meet the needs of a variety of workloads, providing large capacity and high performance. It supports SAN scale-out from 1 to 12 nodes and NAS scale-out from 1 to 24 nodes, with a maximum raw capacity of 176PB.
2. Modular design: Similar to the FAS9000, the FAS8700 also uses a modular design for easy maintenance and upgrade.
3. Cost effectiveness: The FAS8700 is likely to be more cost competitive than the FAS9000 and is suitable for customers who need high performance and scalability but want to control costs.
Common disadvantages ‌ :
Since these are high-end storage solutions, they can be relatively expensive and not suitable for users on a limited budget. In addition, the complexity and professionalism of these systems may also require specialized technical support and maintenance ‌12.

To sum up, FAS9000 and FAS8700 each have different advantages and are suitable for different use cases. Which system to choose depends on the specific needs of the user, such as budget, storage capacity requirements, scalability requirements, and the ease of maintenance.
