FCoE

Chaps,

Seasons greetings.  I had a meeting with cisco yesterday.  We spoke about the world according to Cisco Systems and SANs and ethernet.  Also we spoke about FCoE on NetApp and an adapter which is apparently available.

Anyone used this, had good, or not so good experiences?  And how have you found the integration in with a Cisco environment?

We use the X1139A-R6 FCoE adapter along with the Cisco VIC adapter quite extensively in both our FlexPod architecture and Secure Multi-tenancy. Both solutions feature NetApp FAS + Cisco Nexus + UCS. The adapters have been well tested in both environments and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend using them.

We have the X1140A(so it appears we are running X1139A even though sysconfig -ca shows the X1140) running in our 3160s, but we are only using them for FC right now.  We just installed the cards in our older cluster and are going to stage the IP transition starting next month.

We are using Nexus 5010 and 5020 switches, with ESX hosts using the LUNs.  There was no configuration required on the filer outside of the standard VIF/IFGRP configurations.   The adapters have been running without issue, aside from a bad card in the first cluster which was replaced a year ago and no issues since.

We have added new ESX hosts, so I have an FCoE cluster and a native FC cluster accessing the same LUNs at the same time with no issues.
