Mixed disk on one Aggr Pool on the AFF-A400

Hi, everyone here.

I'm asking you a question for advice.

I want to mix X357 and X356 as the title suggests.

In Fusion tool, it is difficult to check because the Aggr pool is not configured with a mixture of disks.

I wonder if the above configuration is possible and the recommendation.

I would appreciate it if you could provide KB and docs data related to this.

Have a nice day.

Thank you.

I think it should be ok. Just that X356 has reached EOA and EOS is JAN-2025. Have attached hwu reports.

Hello @HojunLim ,

@Ontapforrum is correct, your specific desired configuration is supported. The other main difference betweenX356 and X357, is that X356 drives also support older SAS 3Gbps, whereas X357 does not as it only supports SAS 6 Gpbs and 12 Gbps.

The Hardware Universe tool provides detail on hardware compatibility. Attached is a PDF I exported from our Hardware Universe tool that lists disk compatibility.

The other difference is that X357 supports multi-stream writes (MSW) and X356 does not. In practice this is only an issue in extreme IO environments and where drives are mixed, they will operate as non-MSW. This is not reflected in HWU - it took me a lot of searching to determine.
