NetApp Newbie

Hi Chaps,

I am a complete newbie.  A project has just gone into implementation: UCS/NetApp/VMware is being used, and the keys will be handed over to us soon for support and operations.  Can anyone suggest any recommended reading or have any advice for a newbie?

Many thanks,

Nik

hi,

I think the NetApp vSphere best practices is a quite readable document:

http://media.netapp.com/documents/tr-3749.pdf

also there is a basic concepts quick start guide (bit old, but still good):

http://communities.netapp.com/docs/DOC-2999

regards,

Jacint

Hi and welcome to the Community!

Well, looking at the key components of your solution I am thinking that maybe some reading about FlexPod would be useful?

http://www.netapp.com/us/library/technical-reports/tr-3884.html

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Data_Center/Virtualization/flexpod_vmware.html

There are tons of material about NetApp best practices, but probably the already mentioned doc about vSphere is the most relevant & could be a good starting point.

Regards,

Radek

You might also want to take a look at the FlexPod for VMware Validated Design, just search FlexPod in communities or in NOW (or Google !)  It uses Cisco UCS B servers, Nexus 5K switches and NetApp FAS controllers.  If that's like the kit you have, we have step by step application deployment guides, sizing information and a whole network of partners who are trained on the solution.  There may be some additional value for you.
