What happens when number of disks for a platform is exceeded?

Customer wants to replace 2 x DS14 with 2 x DS2246. The problem is, adding two DS2246 would exceed total disks limit (FAS2240 - 144 disks) and there is no free space to migrate data until new shelves are added. Total platform capacity will not be exceeded. What happens when total number of disks goes above platform limit? Will filer continue to run or shuts down? It will be temporary state anyway until data is moved to new shelves. Thank you.

Unless I'm mistaken, you've got your maths wrong.

2240 - internal disks      =     24

2 x DS14                     =     28

2 x DS2246                    =     48

That's makes 100 disks

You are mistaken. System has 3 x DS2246 and 2 x DS14 shelves already.
