disk 0b.65 has an unsupported label version

I'm having an issue adding a 2 shelf's to my FAS3020 filer. There were 2 issues, one being a bad SFP but that was replaced and the fiber channel adapters are all online now. The second and more frustrating issues is the unsupported raid label I'm getting when trying to assign the disks to the filer.

The shelves were taken from DECOMM excess inventory to be re-purposed increasing the storage capacity of the SAN in the test lab. The existing data from LUN01 on shelf's 1-3 are to be migrated to a new aggregate and LUN on shelf's 4 & 5. One of the new shelf's was properly removed and all disks unassigned from it's originating filer. The second shelf was however, not this lucky. The disks were not unassigned prior to being placed in excess. It appears that only 2 of the disks in the shelf have been assigned successfully to the filer as spares. The originating filer was running ONTAP 7.3.7 and the current filer in the lab is running ONTAP 7.2.7.

Can anyone provide information or some help to resolve this issue? I'm at the end of my rope and none of the troubleshooting I've done seem to be working. I've tried to assign in maintenance mode, fail the disk, unown and reassign, etc. etc. etc. This system is not under NetApp support.

This is a production filer, but it can be halted for maintenance. The ONTAP version can also be upgraded to 7.3.7 if that will help resolve any issues. It's a standalone filer, no HA or redundant filers supporting the data sources.

Any requested confing outputs can be posted.

Thanks.

The only way to resolve this issue is to either put disk in a system with 7.3 and make it zeroed spare or upgrade to 7.3. Is there any specific reason to stay with 7.2?

No, no reason to stay with 7.2.7. It is perfectly ok to upgrade to 7.3.7. The only reason it wasn't done yet is because it's a production filer with no HA. Shutting down the filer brings down the entire test lab.

Actually, hold the phone. I now remember why I have not upgraded to ONTAP 7.3.7. The 3 original shelf's are DS14 MK2 FC with ESH modules that are NOT supported after ONTAP 7.2.x The new shelf's are DS14 MK2 AT with AT-FCX modules installed.

So with this new information, is the best course of action to try and find a filer that has been excessed and possibly available, setup and installed with ONTAP 7.3.7, reclaim and then unassign all the disks to unowned then attempt to re-attach to the FAS3020 running ONTAP 7.2.7 and assign the disks? If sucessful, this would allow the new aggregrate to be created, and the current data migrated to the new shelf's, removing the ESH shelf's and then upgrading the ONTAP of the filer with the new supported shelf's installed?

Thanks.

That's correct. If you cannot upgrade you need to spare this disk under Data ONTAP version that understands disk label.
