Introducing Enhanced Ransomware Protection for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP

At a time when ransomware attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and frequent, securing your data is paramount. We are excited to announce that NetApp’s comprehensive Ransomware Protection Service now extends its industry-leading capabilities to workloads on Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP. This integration marks a significant milestone in cloud security, ensuring that your data remains protected, no matter where it resides.

Why This is Important

The expansion of NetApp Ransomware Protection Service to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP provides your organization with robust, enterprise-grade ransomware protection in the cloud. Ransomware attacks have evolved and are no longer confined to on-premises environments. A recent report by CrowdStrike highlighted a 75% increase in ransomware attacks in cloud environments, underscoring the necessity for advanced, cloud-native security solutions. Traditional security measures like firewalls and endpoint protection are no longer sufficient.

Leveraging leading cyber-resilience capabilities built into ONTAP, NetApp’s Ransomware Protection Service orchestrates a comprehensive ransomware defense, covering all functions of the NIST cybersecurity framework. It uses AI to identify and protect critical workloads, detects and responds to attacks in real-time, integrates with AWS Security Hub security information and event management solution for threat monitoring and alerting, and facilitates easier attack investigation and guided recovery. This supports the best RPO and RTO in the industry.

New Role-Based Access Control Roles and Permissions

In addition to expanding our Ransomware Protection Service to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, we are also introducing new role-based access control (RBAC) roles and permissions within the NetApp Ransomware Protection Service. This enhancement is designed to provide more granular control and improve the management of user access based on specific responsibilities.

New Roles and Permissions:

  1. Ransomware Protection Admin: This role allows users to manage actions on the Protect, Alerts, Recover, Settings, and Reports tabs. Admins have comprehensive control over the ransomware protection service, ensuring that they can effectively respond to threats and manage security settings.
  2. Ransomware Protection Viewer: Users with this role can view workload data, view alert data, download recovery data, and download reports. This role is crucial for team members who need to monitor security status and access critical data without making changes to the system.

The introduction of these new roles provides a more tailored approach to managing access and enhances the overall security posture of your organization.

NetApp’s commitment to providing industry-leading security solutions is evident in these latest enhancements. By extending comprehensive ransomware protection to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP and introducing new RBAC roles, we are empowering your organization to stay ahead of evolving threats and manage security more effectively.
