What's New in Version 1.3.0

Containerized Application Deployment Made Easy

Managing containerized applications just got a whole lot simpler! We've introduced a templated deployment prompt that integrates seamlessly with NetApp Trident for your Kubernetes workloads.

Introducing: "Create AKS + ANF Integration Template"

The VS Code extension enables developers to generate ready‑to‑use deployment templates through a guided prompt, eliminating the complexity of manual infrastructure setup. It allows teams to choose between ARM JSON or Terraform formats based on their infrastructure‑as‑code preferences, while rapidly provisioning Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) with Azure NetApp Files pre‑integrated. In addition, the extension configures NetApp Trident to orchestrate persistent storage for Kubernetes workloads, ensuring stateful applications are deployed with the right performance and storage characteristics from the start.

Use Case:

Sarah, a platform engineer, is responsible for deploying a new microservices application that includes stateful components such as databases and analytics services. Instead of spending hours wiring together AKS, Azure NetApp Files, and Trident manually, Sarah uses the extension to generate a complete deployment template in minutes. With a single prompt, the infrastructure is provisioned consistently, storage is correctly orchestrated for Kubernetes workloads, and Sarah’s team can focus on shipping the application faster while reducing configuration errors and operational overhead.

Smart Cost Optimization with Auto-Tiering Detection

The VS Code extension helps teams proactively optimize storage costs by automatically detecting whether auto‑tiering is enabled on Azure NetApp Files volumes and analyzing their current configuration. It surfaces clear, actionable recommendations to improve tiering efficiency and highlights estimated cost savings, giving developers immediate visibility into optimization opportunities without requiring deep storage or pricing expertise. This removes the guesswork from cost management and enables smarter decisions directly from the development workflow.

Use Case:

Sarah, a platform engineer, is reviewing storage costs for a Kubernetes environment supporting multiple stateful workloads. Instead of manually inspecting volume configurations and usage patterns, Sarah uses the extension to quickly identify volumes where auto‑tiering is not enabled or could be better optimized. The extension flags potential savings and provides clear recommendations, allowing Sarah to make informed adjustments in minutes. As a result, the team reduces unnecessary storage spend while maintaining application performance—without interrupting development velocity.
