Whats new in BlueXP backup and recovery for enterprise applications

NetApp® BlueXP backup and recovery for applications is software as a service (SaaS) that delivers seamless, cost-effective data protection and copy management for enterprise workloads running in hybrid multicloud environments.

 

There are two options available within BlueXP backup and recovery for Applications:

 

  • Hybrid. This option enables customers of NetApp SnapCenter® to put an off-site copy of their databases on a local or remote cloud object or archival storage. The local off-site copy can be maintained in NetApp StorageGRID® object storage, and the remote copies can be maintained in cloud object or archival storage such as Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, Azure Blob, Azure Archive Storage and  Google Cloud object Storage.
  • Cloud native. This option is for backing up and restoring databases hosted on cloud-native storage like Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, Azure NetApp Files, and NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP® software (for AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).

As of April 2023, the following applications and cloud storage are supported:

What’s new in the April release?

Administrators who manage their Oracle databases on Azure NetApp Files (primary) can use the BlueXP backup and recovery service to:

 

  • Securely perform Oracle plug-in installation, configuration, and management on the database host without the need for root credentials
  • Automatically discover the Oracle databases on the host for protection
  • Create custom policies for scheduled and on-demand database backup
  • Perform on-demand backup and restore of Oracle databases on Azure NetApp Files primary storage

Administrators who manage their HANA system on Azure NetApp Files (primary) can use the BlueXP backup and recovery service to:

 

  • Quickly refresh their HANA target system with a fresh copy of the production database
  • Quickly restore the HANA system by using single-file NetApp SnapRestore® even when the Azure NetApp Files backup destination is enabled for NetApp Snapshot replication
