^^ You can use powershell, But like I said, if you are focusing on that many, you should focus on Netgroups. Also, you should considering upgrading your cluster to 8.3.1, especially, since it appears you are running a D1 release

RSH should be eliminated at all cause b/c of the massive security hole, so you are going down the correct route.. There is no such thing as ZERO downtime for CIFS on ontap 7-mode. Also, if you are running an older version of ontap, you should look to upgrade. And to ensure your takeover and giveback will not have any problems, you should run a config advisor against your cluster
