The assumption is that you have moved all the data off of your current setup. 96 disks, is 4 shelves... Are you planning on having a separate aggr0 or rolling in aggr0. I tend to prefer separate aggr0, but that's pure preference at this point. Also, are those 96 disks on each controller? on an HA pair?

Don't get inodes for a total volume and maxdirsize confused. Inodes is important on the dirsize... the article linked above is a good article.. But we've increased maxdirsize on some volumes without issue. It also depends on type of system and memory as to what your default maxdirsize is. Also, if you snapmirrored a volume from a smaller to a larger unit, (i.e. 2240 - 8040) it will inherit the lower limit of the 2240.

You should keep your SP up-to-date as well. Since you upgraded to 8.2.3, this is the first release that Netapp fixed the smb 2.1 bugs that have been plaguing them for years. If you are a CIFS shop, you can use the new command "cifs control" to turn on smb 2.1.

There is no such thing as upgrading from 7-mode to cDOT. This has to be done with new equipment and a migration tool or some form of migration. Before you perform any upgrade you need to run upgrade advisor as it will walk you through your steps you need to complete it. I recommend performing shelf/disk firmware quarterly.

So your end users checked out their quotas from the quota file? That doesnt' sound right. The best advice I would give you is become familiar with system manager if you are a GUI based. If you a powershell guy, i would say, write a dashboard for your users.
