Technically, NSE drives always encrypt. The question is whether you "lock" them with an encryption key or not... In any case... No. You can't mix NSE and non-NSE drives in an HA pair - period.

Ordinarily a 12Gb SAS drive is still compatible with a 6Gb SAS shelf. HWU can confirm or deny. X341A-R6 BUT... you have a different compatibility issue. X417A-R6 appears to be a NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE) FIPS drive. Storage system HA pairs with NSE drives cannot mix with regular drives, such as the X341A-R6.

Your question is somewhat devoid of context... which ports on the FAS2554 are you specifically referring to and which specific Catalyst 9500 model is in question? Generally, this is all standards-based Ethernet when it comes to NetApp products and Ethernet switches. If there is a common technology between them, they should "just work". NetApp does not maintain specific compatibility information for data networking ports and vendor switches. All of the cable/SFP details for the ports on the FAS22554 are available on NetApp Hardware Universe.

As stated, we don't have any formal switch recommendations for data-side networking. You can pick your poison: Mellanox/Nvidia, Broadcom, Cisco, Juniper, Arista, etc. I'd personally stick with enterprise-class switches with good management capabilities.

GS, "Active IQ" is an adjective used for a number of products and services... Are you referring to Active IQ Unified Manager? If so, I would suggest you re-post in this discussion forum: https://community.netapp.com/t5/Data-Infrastructure-Management-Software-Discussions/bd-p/oncommand-storage-management-software-discussions

Richard, Most of NetApp ONTAP documentation is online - the key is to specify your version and mode specifics. E.g. ontap 8.x 7-Mode SP login https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=ontap+8.x+7-Mode+SP+login The 1st hit is: https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1155684 Pg 193. The SP comes with an account named "naroot". Only the SP naroot account and Data ONTAP user accounts with the credentials of the admin role or a role with the login-sp capability can log in to the SP. These users have access to all commands available on the SP.

These types of "limits" questions can usually be answered by looking up the platform and ONTAP version in the NetApp Hardware Universe. https://hwu.netapp.com

Unfortunately, the mixed-version cluster support cannot be used in your situation. 9.1 - 9.2 - 9.3 can be mixed from the FAS3220 perspective on 9.1. 9.3 - 9.4 (minimum for FAS2720) - 9.5 can be mixed from the FAS2720's perspective. But the issue is that min. ONTAP for FAS27xx is ONTAP 9.4. Consider approaches that allow you to snapmirror or copy the data you need migrated to the FAS2720 as a new cluster. More options are documented here: http://docs.netapp.com/platstor/topic/com.netapp.doc.hw-upgrade-controller/home.html

I'm not aware of a reference for packaging information. I can tell you that the packaging dimensions for the 2U FAS27xx box are: 30.375" x 26.125" x 14.125" or 77.2 cm x 66.4 cm x 35.9 cm.

There isn't any specific restriction for uniform firmware on a specific drive model. Be aware that you need to compare the entire drive model string when checking firmware. For example, X422_HCBFE600A10 latest firmware is NA05. See: https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/downloads/firmware/disk-drive-firmware It is highly recommended to update all of the disk firmware to the latest version.

The only way your assertion is true is if you have explicitly requested and obtained approval for a support extension product variation request (PVR). If you do not have a support extension PVR in place, do not expect to receive replacements for the drive when it passes its HW end-of-support (EOS) date. I would check with your NetApp sales representative/partner.

The DQP is read by ONTAP a few minutes after it is installed o the node, automatically. The DQP provides updated information to ONTAP on the technical characteristics of disks. See: https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/topic/com.netapp.doc.dot-cm-psmg/GUID-0989805D-91CF-4930-BBA9-03241EC490CB.html Shelf and disk firmware-level compatibility is considered universal. Compatibility of specific shelf modules (IOM, NSM) and drives (HDD, SSD) is documented in the NetApp Hardware Universe.

If you are in a single-path HA configuration, that means that each node only has one path to the shelf - i.e. it can only reach one of the IOM modules on the shelf. In that situation, your applications need to be able to handle a ~45s pause in storage I/O for the IOM module to restart after an update. Also, make sure you download shelf and disk firmware to both nodes in an HA pair. The node that actually performs the shelf and/or disk firmware will depend on disk ownership and who the "storage master node" is...

Well, you do have one option with the Nexus 3132Q-V that isn't explicitly called out in Hardware Universe, but is explained in NetApp 3132Q-V switch documentation and the reference configuration files (RCF). That 3132Q-V switch model has 4 physical 10GbE SFP+ ports that can be optionally used, instead of the physical 40GbE Port 1. This provides 4 x physical 10GbE ports without any requirement for a breakout cable - think of it as a "built-in" breakout for Port 1. Here's the snippet from an RCF on its use: * Port 1 multiplexed H/W configuration options: *
* hardware profile front portmode qsfp (40G H/W port 1/1 is active - default) *
* hardware profile front portmode sfp-plus (10G H/W ports 1/1/1 - 1/1/4 are active) *
* hardware profile front portmode qsfp (To reset to QSFP) * You can reference the 10GbE cable options available with the older Nexus 5596UP switch for compatible cables and optics w.r.t 10GbE switch ports.

System Manager will show you shelf firmware details. If sending AutoSupport, you can also see this information in the Active IQ portal's reports and visualizations. If you keep ONTAP updated, new shelf and disk firmware will automatically be installed on your storage shelves. As a best practice, if you're not on the latest ONTAP versions, you can download and install any needed shelf and disk firmware using the bundled "all disk/shelf" packages. Shelf: https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/downloads/firmware/disk-shelf-firmware All shelf package: https://mysupport.netapp.com/cgi-bin/shelffwdnld.cgi/download/tools/diskshelf/bin/all_shelf_fw Disk: https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/downloads/firmware/disk-drive-firmware All disk package: https://mysupport.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/diskfwmustread.cgi/download/tools/diskfw/bin/all Installation/update order doesn't really matter. I would personally update shelf firmware, first.

FAS20x0
FAS22xx-x
FAS25xx
FAS26xx
FAS27xx (the latest)

With the "all" tiering policy:
Blocks in the volume are immediately marked as "cold" and tiered
NetApp WAFL® metadata is always "hot" and remains in the performance tier
If read, cold blocks stay cold and are not written back to the performance tier.
So, you'll always have some consumption of the performance (hot) tier due to new writes (transient) and WAFL metadata. The average is about 5%, but it can vary.
