There were known performance issues in SDW 6.2 particularly with LUN enumeration. This will be addressed in 6.3 which is scheduled to be release sometime end of July.

I was able to get more information on this and looks like the lines of communication between Symantec and NetApp are open and the product managers are taking a look at this. Short answer is - yes there is a performance issue that Symantec noted which is why they disabled it. Rough estimate was about 1/10 the expected throughput. Other then that I don't have much more info and hope that our PM's will be able to work with the Symantec team to improve this.

Can you try starting the iscsi service then restarting SDU daemon? There were a few burts showing dependency of the iscsi service to be on for NFS environments. Is it only the snap disconnect that gives you an error?

I've been speaking with our dev team and its not really clear if the "redirected" mode is a MS requirement. Do you have any documentation from MS support suggesting this requirement? I've tried looking around online and haven't been able to find any official documents on CSV resizing. I've confirmed with our DEV & QA that CSV resizing has been tested and confirmed (Both Shrink & Grow). I'm sorry to hear about your support situation. Let me see what I can do here. Can you collect the OntapWINDC logs and send them to me? You've got a PM.

I'd like to take this up with our engineering team to see if the "redirected" mode is a requirement for CSV resizing. Do you have a NetApp support case open on this issue? If not, can you please open a support ticket and collect the OntapWINDC logs? Once the ticket is open, I can forward the information to our dev team.

I can confirm that CSV LUN resize is supported in SDW 6.2. Also keep in mind that best case scenario would be to stop all I/O as mentioned in the IAG guidelines for resizing. • While a LUN is being resized, it might not be available for use, so plan your disk resizing at a time when applications are less likely to be accessing the disk. The limitation of shrinking a LUN is a known microsoft issue and can only be shrunk to half of the original size of the LUN. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=2020591

There could be connectivity issues, cluster resource problems, and many other reasons that could be causing this problem. Are you getting any errors when you do the failover? Disconnecting the LUN should not cause any data loss but you'll need to use caution if there is an application or users writing to the LUN. I strongly suggest opening a ticket with support so they can have a look at the environment to see if there are any problems.

I believe the SMSQL client license is based on "per SQL server instance". They should be able to manage SMSQL remotely as long as all the SQL server they are managing is licensed .

Hi Scott, I looked around for any burts on this and wasn't able to find anything specific to this problem. I did come across a KB article on Symantec's page that notes the same thing you had mentioned but doesn't have much details. http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/323320.htm I've engaged some of the NetApp EV experts and should have a response shortly.

I would definitely plan for an outage if changing the volume language as recommended in the OnTap storage management guide . Technically the first time cifs accesses a directory, that directory will be converted to unicode. So during path lookups, all directories in the path get converted. Its the NFS side of the house that we're primarily concerned with and there may be some directories that have not been converted. I would recommend schedule a maintenance window and follow the guide.

I would suggest the customer to upgrade to the latest SnapDrive for a few reasons. 1) Upgrades are free as long as they have Software Support (SSP). 2) Support won't help them if they run into a problem because its not in the IMT 3) There are numerous changes & improvements from 4.2.1 to the latest version that improve usability.

Is this a cluster? I have seen some instances where there were issues with service dependencies and may want to check the snapdrive service. If the problem persists, I'd recommend using the Data Collection Tool for SnapDrive for Windows (ONTAPWinDC.exe) and open a support case for further troubleshooting.

For group permissions you would need to use Operations Manager RBAC functionality. There is also no "default" grant/decline setting available for the storacl tool. You would need to set individual user access with the xml file and assign the appropriate roles.

You can try adding "simulator" for the serial number and continue filling out the rest of the info. This should get you to the correct team for licenses. You can also contact your sales rep directly and request test licenses.
