Hi Michael, Who changed the volume language ? PM doesn't change it once a secondary volume. You will have to change the vol lang back to what it was in the secondary volume by using filer cli and discover the same in DFM. Then re-add the qtree so that it gets created in the same destination volume. Regards adai

Hi Michael, These are the conditions under which PM creates a new secondary volume. When Maxrelspersecondaryvolume You exceed the default(50) # of relationship. This is not your case PlatformDedupeLimit Adding the new member may require the secondary be increased, but cant be done due to the max dedupe limit supported for the given platform Volume Language. The new members volume language is different from that of the exisitng secondary volume Fan-In If the new member exceeds the max-fan in ratio If the new qtree you are adding is from the same primary volume then you should experience case 2. Hi Michael, By default you can only have 50 relationship going to a secondary volume. If this is a 51st qtree then it will not create the relationship in the existing volume rather try to create a new one. If you want to make it into the same volume you will have to tune a option as follows. This will allow you to use the same secondary volume upto 100 relationships. dfm option set pmMaxSvRelsPerSecondaryVol=100. Regards adai

Hi, What is the error message did you get in your dfpm migrate volume command ? You are running version 5.0 which may not have dedupe limits set of some of the new platforms which got released after it. I recommend you to upgrade to 5.1/5.2 RC1 which has platform dedupe limits updated. You can set the dedupe limits and update the prov policy to include the same. Use this Bugs online link to update the Dedupe limits. http://support.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=508580 Here is the Dedupe limits for 8.1.2 running on 3220 32Bit Aggr, 14.4 GB 64bit Aggr 53.9GB If you are running 5.2 you can set individual limits for 32 and 64bit versions but if you are using only 64bit just set that value. Regards adai Regards adai

Hi Rob, Is the credentilas for the controllers set in OCUM ? If so you should be able to get this info without any issue. BTW, can you do a dfm host diag <filer-name-or-id-or-ip> to see if there are any connectivity issues. Plugins are required only for config management and not for any other functionality. Regards adai

While registering a backup with Protection Manager there is an attribute called is-for-propagation in dp-backup-version-create Api is-for-propagation boolean optional Indicates whether or not this backup version should be propagated according to the data protection policy. If false, the backup version will not be propagated to other nodes. Once a backup version is created, this property cannot be modified. Default value is true. Does Snapcreator today use this ? This would help SC and PM integration to register multiple hourly backups on primary but only propagate daily backup to the SnapVault destination. I am currently working with customer who extensively uses SC with PM integration for their databases. They take once every 4 hours and daily @ 20:00 snapshot on the primary and would like to vault only the daily snapshot to secondary/snapvault destination and not all the hourly snapshot taken once every 4 hour. If SC provides a way for me to turn on or off the element is-for-propagation in the config I can achieve what they are looking for. Thanks in advance for your help, they are currently using version 3.6 Regards adai

Hi Jindrich, Nothing much has changed in the way Configuration Management feature works in the recent releases. Are you trying to manage the /etc/hosts file using config mgmt ? I thought they contain filer specific information. Can you help me understand the reason why you want to manage /etc/hosts file ? Regards adai

Hi Jon, There is no straightforward way to get this data. Once the volume is deleted on the controller the same is marked as deleted in dfm database and cannot be access except for the deleted volumes report. The only way to do this is to access the db, which is not allowed or supported. Also starting version 5.2 which is around the corner we purge all mark-deleted instances from the database. This is basically a trending or forecasting use case which is not handled in OCUM today. I would recommend you look and OnCommand Insight to see if they solve this. Regards adai

Hi Alain, There is no way in OCUM to see all this options. But it does allow you to set the kbs/throttle at the dataset level. Another way to achieve this is by having snapmirror.conf entires for all this realtionsihp as follows with schedule set to none( so filer doenst run the scheudle instead they are run by Protection Manager) srcfiler:srcvolume dstfiler:dstvolume kbs=100000,wsize=60000 - - - - - PS: All these options will be preserved only for VSM relationships. Also the hostprefferredAddr1 or 2 should not be set in case of the source and destination filer. In case of QSM they will be deleted due to known bug 608634 which is fixed in the upcoming release 5.2 which is around the corner. http://support.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=608634 Regards adai
