From the error message, looks like the baseline has not happened, and an update is attempted. We should also look at primary snapvault log for any errors. Regards adai

Hi Jeff, Couple of questions to you. What version of DFM/OnCommand are you using ? Are the destination filer added to DFM and credentials set ? The OSSV transfers are shown under the following report, dfm report view dp-transfer-backup-individual or dp-transfer-backup-*. Is your snapmirror monitoring complete and not showing any error ? Check the same using dfm host diag <destination filer id> | grep -i snapmirror The Data transfer reports are only in Operation manger console and not in oncommand console which is the new UI. Hi Mark, The the current product in place( till OnCommand 5.0) its not possible to transfer a named snapshot using a normal ( non-application) dataset. With respect to your suggestion for future version I shall pass on the information to the product mangers, or they should have already seen this by this time. But a question for you, why do you want named snapshot transfer for a non-application backup ? I understand the need if its an application. Can you elaborate your requirement and need to do it for the "TestLab" Dataset ? Regards adai

Hi Mark, You exactly caught the difference. In protection manager there are two kinds of dataset. Application Dataset. Normal Dataset. Application dataset does the equivalent of snapvault update -s <snapshotname> srcqtree dst qtree because of which you get the same snapshot on the primary transferred to secondary. Where as normal dataset does the equivalent of snapvault update srcqtree dst qtree, because of which we get different snapshot on primary and secondary. In your example SnapCreator is an application dataset as it created by SC using api. An App dataset cant be created using any of the interfaces of PM except for API. Your testlab is normal dataset which you would have created using dataset create/add wizard. All app integration like SME. SMO,SMSQL etc create an application dataset with PM to transfer app consistent snapshot taken by the respective application. Regards adai

Hi Geln, This could be a bug even. Renaming from log00 to log0 is not being picked up in DFM. What version of ontap are these systems running ? Can you make the snmp version 3 as preferred version for communication between DFM and filer. Lets see if this solves. dfm host set <filerip/id> prefsnmpVersion=3 This is supported only for DOT version 7.3 or later and the password must be atleast 8 characters long. Also glen, to your question deleting the volume on dfm does not delete it on the filer, unless you do it from the NMC dataset->Provisioning Page. Regards adai

Hi Sylvain, As you already mentioned sync snapmirror is not supported in Protection Manager. Though its not supported the procedure you did to import and to have a empty schedule is perfectly right. To remove the job failure error. Run an on-demand backup jobs this will dis-appear. The procedure to failover and resync is available in the following link http://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/oncommand/relcore50/pdfs/pdp_work.pdf under the topic Disaster recovery example workflow ->Fail over to the disaster recovery node->Manual failback using the command line interface Regards adai

The discovery of objects happen once every 15mins in OnCommand. But in order to delete a volume/qtree/aggr. OnCommand take 4 cycles or 1hour to mark it deleted. This done as a safety just in case snmp didn't respond in one of the monitoring cycle, we don't remove them from OC db. Regards adai

Hi Mike, You should create a weekly schedule with daily and hourly events.Where the daily events would be like daily @ 8PM and hourly events with once every 4 hours. Accordingly you must also set the retention schedules in the policy.Attached is a sample of the same. Copy the exisiting policy under NMC->ManageData->Policies->Protection->Schedules->"Daily at Midnight with Hourly" Edit the copied policy Go to the hourly events tab,Now change the Frequency in minutes to 240( once every four hours) Similarly go to the daily events tab and change the time at which daily snaphost need to be created. In my case I am leaving it at default of 12. Go to the General tab and re-name the scheudle if required and Click apply. Now Copy the exisiting policy under NMC->ManageData->Policies->Protection->Schedules->"Sunday at Midnight with daily and hourly" Edit the copied policy Go to Daily Events tab Click and daily schedule and select the above policy that we created from the drop down list. Now go to the Weekly events and click the day on which you want to create your weekly snapshots and the time. Now rename the policy and click on apply and ok. Now select your policy, you would like to use and change the retention duration, and apply the above created schedules. Regards adai
