Dear All,

How can we migrate boot volume (ESXI) from our OLD Netapp storage to new Netapp storage?

Can we use snapmirorr for boot volume migration?

share steps for snap mirror configuration and cut over?

Snapmirror (or 7MTT) will work, providing that the source and destination are compatible.

The Process would go something like this:

  • Establish replication.
  • Put host in the MaintMode and power down.
  • do a manual replication of snapmirror.
  • Break the snapmirror.
  • unmap / offline old lun.
  • Online and Map the lun to the host's igroup.
  • repoint the boot targets in the host BIOS.
  • Boot host.
  • Troubleshoot as needed.

Dear SpindleNinja,

currently we have snapmirorr between HO and DR.

can we peer one netapp (HO) to Two Netapp (New one and DR)?

can we replicate one volume (HO Netapp)to different netapp device (DR and New Netapp)?

if i configured new peer with new NEtapp. will it break existing replicatation(Between dr and HO)

Yes you can peer to more than 1.

No it shouldn't break it.

What ontap versions are in play here?
