DFM Events

Anyboby has any idea on these DFM events? The customer is requesting an explanation on these events generated from DFM.

Name                                                      Description

dfmEvtDatasetNoCloneSnapshotFound      No clone snapshots are found on data set members --- What is a clone snapshot? A clone or a snapshot?

dfmEvtFilerCommunicationFailed               Connection to the ZAPI port on a storage system managed by DFM failed ---  What is ZAPI?

dfmEvtSnapTooOld                                   Too Old Snapshots on the volume --- What threshold is for old? Only for snapshot scheduled not set?

dfmEvtNetworkToo Large                           The network is too large. Host discovery for the network is disabled.  ---  How to measure 'large'?

Terrence

Hi,

Answering about some of the traps:

>> dfmEvtSnapTooOld                                   Too Old Snapshots on the volume --- What threshold is for old? Only for snapshot scheduled not set?

This event is generated on a volume when OpsManager discovers snapshots on the volume that are more than "volSnapshotTooOldThreshold" old.

Default value for "volSnapshotTooOldThreshold" is 52 weeks. So if there is a snapshot on the volume which is older than 52 weeks, this will be generated.

This option can be set either at global level using "dfm option set" or per volume basis using "dfm volume set"

>> dfmEvtDatasetNoCloneSnapshotFound      No clone snapshots are found on data set members --- What is a clone snapshot? A clone or a snapshot?

This is generated on dataset associated with a SAN provisioning policy. If the volumes in the dataset, have snapshots that are backing snapshots of LUN clones or Flex clones, then event dfmEvtDatasetCloneSnapshotFound is generated and when they are not found dfmEvtDatasetNoCloneSnapshotFound is generated.

Thanks,

Shailaja

To answer other two questions:

ZAPI means XML APIs of Data ONTAP. These are used by DFM to monitor data

that is not availabe in SNMP and also to perform certain operations on

storage system. These APIs require login credentials of the storage

system to be configured in DFM.

"Network Too Large" is a network that can have more than 2^16 hosts,

think of netmask like 255.254.0.0 or smaller. Threshold for this event

is controlled by a hidden option "networkSizeLimit". Default value of

this hidden option is "16".

Hi Terrence,

My mistake I just overlooked the mail thinking that you are looking for the specific zapi.
