Different Freespace-Info in OnCommand and ESXi

Hello,

we are using ESXi with Windows and Linux-Hosts.

The datafiles are in VMDKs on our NetApp.

When I look to the freespace info on the OnCommand Manager it differs much from the info in our VCenter. F.e. OnCommand shows 5.2TB free space for the LUN, VCenter has only 3.8GB free space.

Is that right, or is there something wrong?

Thanks and regards

Martin

Hi Martin,

When you say OnCommand Manager, can you be sepecif as to if its Unified Manager or System Manager ? Also if you could attach a screen shot it would help us.

BTW what version of Data ONTAP are you running ? From what I understand you are using a VMFS datastore and not a NFS datastore.

Hi Adai,

we are using OnCommand Manager 2.02

Here are the screenshots:

1. As shown in VCenter:

2. As shown in OnCommand:

As you can see there is a difference from 4.87 to 3.61.

Yes, we are using a VMFS datastore.

Thanks and regards.

Hi Adai,

we fount the mistake! It was not a mistake, but a different view to the available space-size!

The ESXi sees the LUN size. If we create a virtual Disk inside the available space is LUNsize minus Disksize.

On NetApp-Side OnCommand shows the LUNsize minus used Space! The size of the virual disk is not important for NetApp, only the used space. That was the difference an the confusion.

Thanks for helping!

Regards

Martin
