Both DFM and Oncommand Systemmanager are installed on a W2003 Server. The Server is located in a different network as the storage appliances. With Oncommand Systemmanager I can administrate the filer, with DFM I get no connection. (SNMP timeout). What is the diffence in communication.

Hi Thomas

I was wondering do you mean DFM in its current version as OnCommand Unified Manager core package,( what a mouthful) ie 5.1. This does use SNMP to discover controllers, but you do need to setup credentials to connect to controllers.

If you are having a problem connecting to controllers got to the edit controller settings page.

documentation can be found at:

http://support.netapp.com/documentation/docweb/index.html?productID=61474

and you will want Ops manager guide

Hallo Ruairi,

yes OnCommand Unified Manager core package is not the smallest. (somebody bought the license).

I edited the network credentials but I cannot discover controllers.(snmp timeout)  I think I have to contact my network (firewall) admins to open port 161/162 udp for snmp.

What I wonder and that’s my questions: Why can I administrate the controllers by Oncommand Systemmanager. What sort of connection is this?

Hi Thomas,

Can you get a dfm diag output for the controller in question ?

Pls check the following FAQ on what port are mandatory for OCUM to work and discover. Also its not recommended to install other products on which OCUM is running as you may hit port conflicts.

hallo Adai,

i deinstalled Systemmanager 2.0.2 but it doesn’t matter.

please see the screenshot of dfm host diag (sorry for bad quality)

you can see the controller is shown with FAS3020, that’s the old system we replaced , now it is an FAS3240 , but it has the same IP Adress like the old one had before.

Hallo Mr. Adai,

do you know how to remove all the old entries from database. if I delete a controller caxsrv4  and than I add the same name again, it show me former entries (FAS3050, Version 7.2) but now we had replaced the controller and we have FAS3240 Version 8.1.   But Operationsmanager show me always the old entries.

Hi Thomas,

Pls check this FAQ, your looks like a tech refresh.

https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMM1278650/html/faq/index.shtml#_9.10

we identify the filer identity based on 3 things,

  1. Host name
  2. IP address
  3. System ID
