Dear Team,

We are using NETAPP E2812 with SANtricity® OS Software Version 11.70.2. Recently we upgraded our HOST to Server 2022.

Everything is working fine. But Device Manager shows error about NETAPP Universal Xport SCSI Disk Device. Refer attachment.

Need help what we can check to resolve this issue.

Regards,

Shiju Chacko

If you install the E-Series DSM for Microsoft, it should take care of the Universal Xport SCSI Disk Device. Here is how you can install it: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series/config-windows/configure-multipath-software-task.html

Additionally, you can un-map the access volume from E-Series SANtricity System Manager under Hosts section. The access volume is the NETAPP Universal Xport SCSI Disk Device. This volume is mapped by default to hosts when they are created in SANtricity System Manager. The volume is used for in-band management of E-Series systems, and can be unmapped if in-band management is not in-use. (https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series-santricity/sm-storage/unassign-volumes.html?q=access+volume)

In-band management is where the host uses the data ports (i.e Fibre Channel) to manage E-Series system. This does not affect data access and normal I/O to user configured volumes. (https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series-santricity/sm-storage/access-volumes.html)

On the other hand, out-band management is where the ethernet ports are used to manage E-Series system via SANtricity System Manager.

Dear @ahmadm

Issue has not resolved. Tried contact Host Vendor Dell and suggested to upgrade HBA Firmware & Drivers. Can we do the same.

HBA Details :

Firmware : https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER10611923M/1/SAS-Non-RAID_Firmware_0GP3C_WN64_24.15.14.00_A04.EXE | Version : 24.15.14.00

Driver : https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER07800517M/2/SAS-Non-RAID_Driver_KR3TR_WN64_2.61.29.02_A02_01.EXE | Version : 2.61.29.02

@Shiju_Chacko Which steps have you completed? And in case you installed the NetApp E-Series DSM, did you reboot the host afterwards?

Dear @ahmadm

We already have DSM and host restart multiple times. We have only one volume mounted. We have contacted Host Vendor Dell and suggested to upgrade the Driver and Firmware after approval from NETAPP. Please suggest.

Based on our interoperability matrix the last versions we have tested are:

  • 02.51.24.80
  • 16.17.01.00

You may still potentially upgrade to newer versions as recommended by the vendor, but you would need to file a feature product variance request via your account team.

Regarding the device in question, I don't think upgrading the HBA driver and firmware would resolve your concern. However, un-mapping the access volume as described in my initial post should be sufficient as long as you are not using in-band management.

Hope this help.
