Coming in October, the NetApp Certified Storage Installation Engineer, Clustered Data ONTAP!

The NetApp Certified Storage Installation Engineers, Clustered Data ONTAP (NCSIE cDOT) certification becomes available October 12, 2015. The new certification can be earned by taking a new exam, NS0-180, which will replace NetApp Accredited Installation Professional (NAIPCDOT) in the Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3 PS Professional Learning Path. Those earning the NCSIE cDOT have proven skills in performing clustered Data ONTAP® installation services, adhering to NetApp® quality standards, and using NetApp best practices.

• Beginning October 12, 2015, partner employees that earn NS0-180 can automatically test-out of the Clustered Data ONTAP Installation Workshop to earn Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3 PS Professional.
• After October 12, 2015 the NAIPCDOT exam will no longer be offered on the last day of the COIW course. Instead learners will receive a practice test to help them prepare for the new NS0-180 exam.
• Partner employees that already earned Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3 PS Professional by successfully completing NAIPCDOT are required to earn their NCSIE cDOT certification by November 1, 2016 to maintain compliance with PS Certification.
• The new NS0-180 exam will be offered through Pearson VUE beginning in October. The exam will also be offered free at NetApp Insight 2015 in Las Vegas, October 12-15 and Berlin, November 16-20.
• From October 1, 2015 thru April 1, 2016 NetApp will run two free exam voucher programs to assist our partners to transition from NAIPCDOT to NCSIE cDOT credentials.
  • Any partner with an NAIPCDOT that would like to earn their NCSIE cDOT will be given one free exam voucher to attempt the NS0-180 exam.
  • Any partner attending the cDOT Installation Workshop (COIW) class will be given one free exam voucher to attempt the NS0-180 exam.

Could you please clarify, is this exam required to earn the new FY17 "NetApp Installation Certification—ONTAP" partner program or not?

Hello Andrey,

The NetApp Certified Storage Installation Engineer, ONTAP (NS0-180) is the sole mandatory element for the Partner Program called "FY17 ONTAP Installation Engineer".

It’s worth noting that the ‘NetApp Installation Certification—ONTAP’ is not a pre-requisite for the ‘NetApp Professional Services Certification’ as that includes all the requirements of the Installation certification. A partner can only participate in one or the other program, therefore a partner who is currently participating as a PSC partner does not need to, and will be unable to enrol in the Installation Certification.

I'm still wondered, because all documents about this program say that the "learning path" is the only requirement that needs to be done. And none of them - about passing the exam.

For example:

1. Fieldportal (https://fieldportal.netapp.com/content/445160?assetComponentId=445820) says that "Effective July 30, 2016. To earn Installation Certification, a minimum of one employee from your organization must complete the FY17 ONTAP Installation Engineer Learning Path. View or enroll in required training.".

2. Services Certified Partner Program Guide (https://fieldportal.netapp.com/content/199403?assetComponentId=199501) says, that only requirement for this program is the "Training Requirements for Installation Certification—ONTAP View or enroll in the Installation Engineer—ONTAP learning path at https://learningcenter.netapp.com/content/secure1/production/learning_maps/pilp/lm_pilp_t1_s1.html".

3. Learning center (saba) says, that only requirement for "FY17 ONTAP Installation Engineer" certification is the "NetApp Certified Storage Installation Engineer, ONTAP course" (which doesn't have any scheduled date).

You should be able to find the answer to your question in your Learning Path. I recommend that you enroll in it and follow the required elements. This should answer a most if not all of your questions.
