Hi,
May I know if my setup will be possible, We will be buying AFF A250 ONTAP 9.8 for our SQL DATA. We want to mirror data to our DC but the device that is currently in our DC is FAS 8200 9.7 ONTAP.
My question here is that will the SnapMirror be compatible? I have check and NetApp KB is saying it is possible but the NetApp Docs site is saying it is not possible and now I don't know who to follow.
NetApp Docs Site: https://docs.netapp.com/ontap-9/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.pow-dap%2FGUID-0810D764-4CEA-4683-8280-032433B1886B.html
Also, If this will be compatible, since data in AFF is compressed to 3:1, what will happen if this data will be mirrored to the FAS System?
Regards,
Jiggy

Documentation link you provided contains 2 tables.
top one is about DP engine snapmirror
bottom one is about XDP, the same one is in KB
default engine is XDP
xdp 9.7 9.8 show to be compatible on the matrix. Though why not upgrade the 8200?
This should help answer the efficiency question -
SnapMirror type-XDP allows storage efficiency independence between source and destination volumes. While this allows for increased flexibility, certain combinations of storage efficiency settings can cause source volume storage efficiency savings to be lost during transfer.
This KB is specific to SnapMirror type-XDP relationships. SnapMirror type-DP relationships maintain source-side storage efficiency savings by design but cannot have independent storage efficiency configurations between source and destination volumes.
Hi,
Currently we can only upgrade FAS 8200 to 9.7P16.
That is the recommended OS per active IQ.
Can we ignore active IQ and just go for 9.8?
interesting.. the 8200 is supported up to 9.9.1 even.
Does it let you run an upgrade advisor doc for it to go to 9.8p6 or 7 ?
yes, we run active IQ upgrade advisor and result is upgrade to 9.7Psomething. Anyway I think it is okay as it is confirmed that 9.7 to 9.8 snapmirror is possible.
