Anyone have a good 1 page Snapmirror Snapvault Solutions Comparison?

Many partners have been asking me recently about Snapmirror and SnapVault, when to sell, where, and why. Has anyone put together a good one page discussion, or know of where one exists?

I am interested more in functionality, then price.

Thanks for the help.

This presentation has a slide that contains side-by-side comparison of both of the technologies.

The very short answer is....

  • SnapMirror = one-to-one replication (all data on source volume plus any existing snapshots) - most useful for DR
  • SnapMirror = disk-based backup - keys off snapshots on source volume but can keep snapshots further back on the destination (and using Open Systems SnapVault (OSSV) the source can either be a NetApp or Windows/ESX/Linux/etc.)

And finally, I believe there are some promotions around SnapVault/OSSV which could a lot for the next couple months.

Also snapmirror can be both a target and destination system at the same time.  But a snapvault system can only be one or the other (Changed in DoT7.3 however) and snapvault can not be cascaded.
