Will a FAS2050 be supported in Data ONTAP 8.0 or later releases?

No.  Only the FAS2040 in the 2000 line since it has 4GB RAM.  FAS2020 and FAS2050 will not support ONTAP 8.x

Hi,

I think on FAS2050 is down to the fact it has 32-bit CPU which can't run 64-bit code.
