De-Dupe AutoCAD

Hey Folks,

I understand that AutoCAD drawings (files) have very poor De-Dupe results. I have been told this is due to the fact that when you file save in the latest versions of AutoCAD the application scrambles and re-writes the entire file. This for obvious reasons murder’s De-Dupe.

I was told some time ago that this can be resolved by a patch from AutoCAD...

Has anyone looked into this and done it?

Thanks in advance

Michael.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for pointing this out. It looks like the 2010 version of AutoCAD does not reorder the bits when files are saved. So the problem is likely resolved.

On a related note, NetApp had recently worked with Siemens PLM Software (PLM/CAD ISV), on deduplication testing. In tests performed using a Teamcenter data repository, we found that 57% of the storage space was recovered using NetApp deduplication. Please refer to the PDF document under "Top News" at the following siemens.com site: http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/partners/partnerSearchResults.cfm?action=company&companyId=0013000000L5NI6AAN

Thanks,
Srinivas
