Hi,
I just want to know if someone have an idea regarding this issue.
I was doing a disk firmware update. It was fine for every disk except disk 0d.00.0.
This is 1 head FAS2040 - Data ONTAP 7.3.3P5

I have try to force the update, to fail/unfail the disk, doing power_cycle on it... But for now I can't reboot the node. I found nothing on NOW.
Any idea?
Regards,
Jerome Hains
I do not think it makes much sense to waste time on it (except if you are personally interested ☺ ); just open case with NetApp and request disk to be replaced.
Haha! You are right !
I was just wondering if someone already see that issue.
Thank you anyway
You're not alone. I started an drive update yesterday and seeing this on at least a dozen drives for just one controller alone. Curious to what support has to say when I open that call.
Do you have any news from the support team? Please let me know if you have a minute.
Jerome
We're seeing this too. Systems running ONTAP7.3.5.1P1. This is affecting about 8 individual drives from two different manufacturers. So it's more than just one f/w type that's affected. We have a call open with NetApp but so far no 'eureka' moment. Will keep you posted on any progress.
I have a client with 8.0 with this issue. We ended up failing each disk, one at a time and replacing them with newer/replacement drives. This was a PITA especially for the 1 and 2TB drives.
NeApp (UK) are recommending we fail the disks and they'll supply replacements. Starting this process on Monday. I asked them about carrying on with Disk F/W updates on our other sytems and they advised us to proceed.
I have 2 x 2040 clusters with X302_WMARS01TSSM disks. Running DOT 7.3.4
Both clusters have a few drives with the NA04 firmware release, and are failing on upgrade to NA07, with the error mentioned about.
Call open with Netapp as well, no answer as of yet.
I suspect that disk change over is the only way to deal with this problem.
Hello,
You can manually do the update, download the latest firmware from NOW and place it under /etc/disk_fw, and use command disk_fw_update <disk> to update the firmware on disk, which was not updated by automatic firmware update. There could be something wrong with disk, in that you may need to manually fail the disk and put in replacement drive; NetApp support team would be able to help on this if first step fails.
Thanks,
Sahil
Didn't work I'm afraid. Same error.
Next step would be to open a case with NetApp support team, and ask for replacemnt drive.
I performed an ONTAP upgrade to 7.3.6P5
on reboot it applied the firmware to the disk
Performing ONTAP upgrade to 8.1RC3 correct the issue.
I didn't find any other workaround...
