Does earlier version of ontap 8.3 support AES 128 encryption ? Well the qustion is:  ONTAP 8.1 (7-mode) and 8.2 (c-mode and 7-mode) family support AES 128 encryption?

I got a response from NetApp support that AES 128 bit encryption starts in ONTAP version 8.3 this is not available in earlier versions. But I am not convinienced with it or should I?

What type of encryption are you referreing?

As mentioned in TR-4130, Encryption at rest by NetApp Storage Encryption(NSE) support AES 256-bit. NSE requires Self-Encryption Disks and key management server. Data ONTAP 8.1 and later support NSE.

For protocol security, as you told from tech support , 256-bit key support of AES encryption for kerberos-based communication starts in Data ONTAP 8.3.
