Encrypting tapes that have been written by snapmirror to tape.

Hi

I use snapmirror to tape to write my san data using Bakbone's Netvault. My fc lto4 drives are attached to two 16 port Brocade switches. Not sure of the models. I believe they are just fc switches. I have two filers also attached to the same Brocade switches.

I have seen that Brocade have an encryption san switch which looks to be an expensive solution to my problem.

What other alternatives are there to encrypt my data being snapmirrored to tape.

Thanks

Well, the obvious suspect around here is NetApp Decru appliance, but I doubt you could classify it as cheap 😉

There is embedded encryption capability in many (of not all) LTO4 drives, but I am actually not quite sure how to use it (is it still backup software dependent?)

Regards,
Radek
