Factory Reset Ontap

Is there a full comprehensive way to factory reset a Controller to destroy all settings, logs, clear fcache, eveything under the sun and anything that i am missing in this list.

1. The loader looks like there is a set-defaults

2. The boot menu has wipeconfig. What all does this clear or more importantly, what does it not clear. Ranging anything from logs drive ownership, any minor config or detail.

3. The diag looks like it has a bunch of items that needs to be cleared depending on the version that is running. I looks like older versions have fcache options for clear flash exteneded and the newer version has

sldiag option modify fcache_hwconfig clear flash

Anyway, if there was a comprehensive way to clear all the setting, data config, logs, cache, etc. for each version that would be helpful.

There is a KB someplace. It goes over wiping the BMC/SP, sanitizing the drives and most things.

Personally, if I am repurposing a system, I just do the set-defaults and then the 9/9a/9b process (which in includes a wipeconfig). Most of my customers send the unit out for destruction so most cases for me no real need to fully wipe everything

Thanks for the input. Our customers send us there equipment to have cleared and repurposed or  destroy depending on the value.  We wipe drives using 3rd party software, does that get rid of everything on the drives or is there somethin in the 9 a & b option that clears something that 3rd party tools are not able to clear line ownership status or anything like that?  I dug around for a comprehensive KB article like you had mentions but could not find anything.  If you come across it let me know.

Reimaging is always ideal when removing data but unfortunately we don't have access to download ONTAP 😞

Would you have any idea if netapp would let us use a trial OS/license to reimage these and let whoever uses  license the device or do you think whoever uses it down the road will be upset because it has a trial license. I don't know how any of it work so just shooting in the dark.
