We have had this unit for almost 7 years. Today one of the two spares failed. There are two aggregates in this unit.

Raid-tec (1st aggregate)
Raid-dp (2nd aggregate)

Question, if a drive other than the non spare failed, would the system automatically take the spare and replaced it with the failed?

Second, when the new part is sent to you, can we replace it ourselves? I was told we have support for onsite replacement. First time dealing with hardware replacement in 7 years (knock on wood).

1. if a disk that's in a RG / aggr fails, yes, it will grab a spare one of equal type and size.    You'll see it rebuilding after the failure.

2. Depends on your contract, but typically yes,  a field support person will change the disk out.   By default systems have disk auto assign enabled and it'll just get assigned as the new spare.
