I plan to upgrade several sets of device versions from 9.1 to 9.8. Do I need to consider upgrading the microcode and IOM of the disk during the upgrade process? My equipment models are FAS8040 and FAS2554

ONTAP version is bundled with multiple other firmwares like disk, shelf, SP, BIOS, LOADER
So when you update ONTAP, all these will be updated. So nothing to worry about it.
However, 9.8 is an old release so the bundled firmwares could not be the latest. In that case, you would need to manually updated disk, shelf, BIOS firmwares bases on the compatibility
In addition to this, DQP version has to be updated manually as it is not bundled with ONTAP
