How to suppress console messages when typing commands?

Hi

Does anyone know how to suppress console messages appearing on screen when typing commands? Because at certain times it is very disturbing to have those console messages on screen when we were performing some serious tasks.

I am not asking the way to permanently stop console messages appearing on screen by editing "syslog" file. I just want to know a way to stop console messages appearing on screen temporally or let's say in a given session.

For an example, in a Cisco switch we can use "no logging console" to suppress console messages. I want know something similar to that.

Thank you in advanced.

Perhaps you can do "wrfile /etc/syslog.conf" with the contents "*.info /etc/messages"  and delete that file afterwards.(unless there are  customized entries in the file)
