For Mac OS clients, what is the default negotiated SMB version with CDOT 8.3 when both SMB2 and SNMB3 are enabled on the storage? Clients range from Mac Os 10.9.5 to the latest version.
Solved! See The Solution
The Negotiated SMB version would be the highest version supported by both Client and the Storage controller. Some clients may not support some protocols, and in some storage controllers some protocols are disabled by default.

Also, you may visit the IMT at http://support.netapp.com/matrix to know more about the compatibility between different OS types and protocols. A sample screenshot is attached.
Here, you can see that MAC OS 10.9.5 does not support SMB 3.0 on ONTAP 8.3. You may check other versions here too.

I know I'm late to the party here, but I am also seeking a solution to allow the Macs at my studio to search the NetApp SAN. I tried going to both links you seggested but neither is valid anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure what you are trying to do, but please see if this could help. The KB mentioned earlier is out of date and has been archived. Here is something that may be useful.

Thanks for the quick responce, I appreciate it. Perhaps I was less than clear. I don't have a problem mounting and accessing the various SAN shares, that works fine. The problem is when users are trying to search for a specific file on the SAN they can't search for it. We've got many thousands of files, and it would be huge for us to be able to search for files again.
Thanks
