Good Morning NetApp Gurus,

My FAS3160  DOT 8.0.1 upgraded was done last night.

Would you be kind enough to advice?

  1. The suggested RAID Group Size for the new 64-bit AGGR ?
  2. Volume data migration from 32-bit to 64-bit AGGR procedure ?
  3. LUN data move procedure from 32-bit to 64-bit AGGR non-disruptively ?

Thanks in advance & Good Sunday

Henry

Hi there,

1) default values like on 32bit apply, be aware tho that you can rise the max raidsize for S-ATA drives up to 20 now

2) qtree snapmirror, snapvault or ndmpcopy

3) same as 2), there is a downtime involed tho, there is NO way to do it nondisruptive

Regards

Thomas

Thanks Thomas for your quick response!

Would you be kind enough to also advice the pros/cons on using qTree snapmirror or ndmpcopy ?

Good Sunday

Henry,

qtree snapmirror can be updated several times as every snapmirror transfer can. and you can deceide when to update & break it.

ndmpcopy only allowes to be updated for 3 times (level 0/1/2 copy) thus cannot be that easily updated several times and it blocks the console during transfer, not allowing you to control the data flow etc.

I prefer qtree snapmirror BUT you can only transfer qtree & non-qtree data into a qtree eg:

filer1:/vol/data/dataqtree1 -> filer2:/vol/data/dataqtree1 for qtree to qtree data

filer1:/vol/data/- -> filer2:/vol/data/dataqtree2 for non-qtree to qtree data

filer1:/vol/data/- -> filer2:/vol/data/- will NOT work

Regards

Thomas
