Ontap 7: is UTF-8 mb3 or mb4?

I'd always thought that UTF-8 was UTF-8 (so to speak) but it appears there's mb3 (3 byte max) or mb4 (4 byte) max types.

Which flavour does NetApp Ontap 7 use when a volume language is set to en_US.UTF-8?

Hi there,

ONTAP 7 should be considered utf8mb3 for most purposes. Some protocols will pass through utf8mb4 and it may handle it, but full UTF8mb4 support for ONTAP appears to arrive in ONTAP 9.5

Hope this helps!
