Procedure for graceful automatic shutdown during sudden power interruption

Hello All,

I have this strange question in my mind and I really need to find a solution for this. I want a shutdown procedure to automatically kick-in immediately with help of final UPS power which is going to keep the system alive for next 10 mins after sudden power outage in that site.

Guys, please help me this query to see if there is a solution from Netapp for this sort of issues.

Hi Prakash,

There used to be a set of commands in ONTAP specifically for this, but the solution was a little restrictive from what I recall and the commands are no longer supported: -

https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1120690/html/GUID-D642BDC3-0DF9-4F4E-AD8B-D04C85C86519.html

For the most part it isn't necessary as the way that ONTAP processes writes means that the file system is always consistent and any uncommitted changes logged in NVRAM will be applied when the power is restored. The only problem is that you'd need to restore power before the batteries drain which is around 72 hours the last I heard.

Regards,

Warren
