SMVI - How to recover from old snapshots

In SMVI we have our retention set to 4 days and each night we dump our SMVI snapshots to tape with NDMP. Our tape has a different retention, so we could go back a month or more and restore an SMVI snapshot back to the volume. Say we do this and restore a 30 day old SMVI snapshot back to its volume via NDMP -- how do I then make SMVI aware that this snap is back, so I can see it in the GUI and select it for recovery?

Is that not possible with the GUI?

Any help or clarification is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Brian

Hi

What are the exact steps you are using to do this? Are you using SMtape at any time or is it always NDMP?

The NDMP backup & restore of snaps would be done with NetBackup Enterprise Server. Once we restore the SMVI snap back to the volume using NetBackup, I'm just wondering how to make SMVI aware of it again so I can select it for restore from the GUI.

Hi

If the volume that you have restored to and the snapshot name has not changed then SMVI should be able to detect it I think. Does that not happen?

Also if you have filer retention

SMVI does not lose backup metadata and can restore from tape.
