Hi All,
I need to remove a SATA shelf and replace it with a SAS shelf on one of our controllers. The SATA shelf which I will be removing currently has a shelf ID of 13, I would like to replace this with a new SAS shelf in the same position on the stack and use the same shelf ID.
Is it OK to do this in a single step instead of two steps with a clean boot/halt between each change?
Eg:
1. Offline SATA aggregate
2. Halt both controllers in the cluster pair
3. Remove the SATA shelf
3. Add SAS shelf and set shelf ID to 13 (this was the same as the SATA shelf)
4. Boot both controllers and assign disks
or
1. Offline SATA aggregate
2. Halt both controllers in the cluster pair
3. Remove the SATA shelf
4. Boot both controllers and confirm successful boot
5. Halt both controllers in the cluster pair
6. Add SAS shelf and set shelf ID to 13 (this was the same as the SATA shelf)
7. Boot both controllers and assign disks
In short is it ok to change the shelf ID to one that was used before in the same controller. Also just to clarify is it OK to halt the controllers, change the shelf ID's then boot without loss of data?
Many Thanks
Luke
