Snapmirror question (32B and 64B AGGR / 7.X and 8.X)

Quick question.

We have a FAS3240 running OnTap 8.0.2P4 (64B Aggr) and was curious to know if we could snapmirror to an offsite FAS3140 running OnTap 7.3.2 (32B Aggr)?

We were told that we might be able to snapmirror vol to qtree (source to dest). I can't find any supporting documentation regarding that statement. We need to replicate a few volumes for a few months for DR purposes.

Any help is appreciated!

quick answer:

you can volume snapmirror from a 7.3.x 32bit aggregate to a 8.1.x 64bit aggregate but not to a 8.0.x 64bit aggregate.

you can almost always qtree snapmirror from ontap 7.x to 8.x.

So if i have a volume with VM Guests in it (NFS) I cannot vol snapmirror from my 8.02 filer to the 7.3 filer correct?

BUT, I can however qtree snapmirror from my 8.02 filer to the 7.3 filer correct?

Just making sure is all..

Thanks
