I have an old system off support:

Suddenly 0a has gone offline:

My thoughts would be to replace the cable from 0a to the shelf and consider re-seating the modules.

You could try the steps you have planned, nothing to loose. B'cos if it's down to faulty SAS HBA port then it could also mean replacement of motherboard.

As the 8.2 (is still under limited software support) - You could try opening a ticket with support for their opinion (software related only). But, as you are aware, anything related to hardware [FAS3240, EOSH:31-12-18] will need to be addressed outside of support.
