Please bear with me here -- I'm a network guy and know very little about NetApp. But I'm trying to help a customer restore a NetApp that crashed (possibly due to power issues). It's an older single-chassis two-node cluster running an EOL version of ONTAP (8.3), so formal support isn't an option. With a shelf, it has 48 disks total, of which 6 are currently in a failed/broken state. The overall system and both nodes in the cluster show healthy, but the problems that I see just from poking around in the CLI and GUI are as follows: - The aggregates (other than aggr0 for each node) show in an "unknown" state. (The state was "failed" prior to a reboot of the cluster.) Attempting to bring them online results in "Failed to bring aggregate <name> online. Reason: Lookup failed." - The volumes do not seem to exist. They are listed with the "volume show" command but no information about them (e.g. size) is displayed other than the aggregates they belong to. In the GUI, the volume names appear in the namespace but nothing is listed on the "volumes" tab for the Vserver. In the namespace, nothing that displays can be mounted or unmounted. Attempting to bring a volume online returns "Error onlining volume ... Unable to set volume attributes ... Reason: The volume does not exist for the operation." - The single Vserver is running but the dashboard command shows the error "Vserver root volume and root volume load-sharing mirrors are either offline or don't exist." This NetApp is unfortunately an SPOF for the network in question, so any assistance or advice is appreciated. Even if the aggs/volumes cannot be restored, is there any way to export the data residing on the healthy disks? Thanks.

We have 5 different 4 nodes clusters running an at the moment and almost in every cluster the disk ID's are different. For example in one they are the following when running the command "disk show":
Disk id 5.0.0, 5.0.1, etc and 7.0.0, 7.0.1, etc
When you start from scratch your disk id's are 0.0.0 or 1.0.0 (not sure or it starts at zero or one). Is it possible to change the disk ids from Disk id 5.0.0, 5.0.1, etc and 7.0.0, 7.0.1, etc into Disk id 1.0.0, 1.0.1, etc and 2.0.0, 2.0.1, etc? And if so how do you do this?
thanks for your time,
Maurice

Hi, I got a FAS2620 Cluster with 2 nodes, a few weeks ago there was a failure in 1 Controller, it is an old ONTAP 9.3 (don't jude me for this) with external support service, this support replaced the controller with a renewed one and for many reasons we didn't notice the node didn't come back, when we finally can get a login screen by console, Service Processor IP and all data shown was from previous company and running ONTAP 9.7x, after some work I downgrade to ONTAP 9.3P21 but I think the node needs to be rebuild from scratch, the issue is I can't get ONTAP 9.3 version to be in the same version as the cluster does and I can't update the cluster because there is a node missing, besides the node working is sharing data for final users. I think the only way to get both nodes working as a cluster is backup all data and force an update in the node running 9.3 to 9.3P21 and rebuild the cluster from scratch. Probably there could be other way so I'm open to any suggestion.

Hi I suspect some permissions acces on a file in a cifs server. I would like to check the effective access on the netapp with the command vserver security file-directory show-effective-permissions but i don't find a way to find the path of the file. It s a really old old file with some strange charset on the name. I can't use the cifs share to do that as there s a lot of cross domain and nested groups involved. Then i don't reallt know on which groups this user is member off I can access the file on the explorer of system explorer. But i don't find a way there to either - get the path i would able to paste in the cli command - find if a specific user has acces to this file or not. At the end i didn't find a way to list the content of a volume from the cli Does someone know how i can espace from this trap?
