should I add more space to into volumes in a thin provisioned aggregate

I have mulitple volumes and then shares as well as luns under a aggregate. The detail about the aggr is listed below which is pulled out in Operation Manager.

Now we are required to increase 500GB on two different volumes under the aggr. Could you please advice if we should commit the request based on the following data? The concern is that since all volumes have been set to volume gurantee=none, so, if we subscribe the space too much, it may blow up volumes at one point. Apprecaite your inputs!

Hello again netappmagic,

Looks like your aggr1 still have enough room to take care the 2 x 500 GB need. You may expand the volumes.

Due to the volumes are thin provisioned, you will receive an alert should the aggr reaching the over-provision level.

Good luck

Hi Henry, Thanks for your inputs.

2 more follow-up questios:

How would you determine the over-provision number? and how and where would you setup the threshold?

Sure netappmagic,

The alerts will come from your DFM Server, you may wish to check out the alert threshold setting there.

Good luck

Hi Henry,

Based on what, you could determine that we stiii have enough room to add more space? Are you setting up the threshold in Operation Manager? If you could lay it out step by step, that'd be great, and how do you determine the exact threshold figure? Do you have any document? Thanks!

Well netappmagic,

You may wish to go through the usage to determine whether there are still have enough room to add more space.

Yes, you may setting up the threshold in Operation Manager. You could find out the step by step process in the DFM User Guide.

You will determine the exact threshold figure by the app usage, I'm set it up to alert the team when reach 90%.

The old school way is go through the manual.

Enjoy the reading.
