snapshot refresh

is there any way to refresh snapshot?

let us say we have lun volume, need to be backed up from snapshot on a mount host, we make a flexclone on a snapshot, mount the lun from flexclone to the host.

when we take a new snapshot,  can the data be refreshed to existing snapshot without remapping again?

i heard WFA may do this, just wonder how it works in the background.

we are on Ontap 9.8p2.

thanks.

Hello,

You can't "refresh" that snapshot.

You would need to map the new clone from the new snap every time.

WFA could do that but it's only automating the procedure for you... new snap, new clone, new map, unmount, repeat.

Other backup apps like Commvault would do the same under the hood.

Pedro

thanks for reply.

will the WFA procedure guarantee the same device ID be used from new snapshot? Just wonder how it works in the background for the host to avoid repeating device configurations.

Hi,

New clone = new LUN serial number.

But the LUN ID is the one you chose during the lun mapping operation...
