Hi,

I have a customer whose V3270 controller (motherboard) failed. Now I have a FAS3270 controller. Can I use FAS3270 mother board to replace V3270 mother board?

Your professional feedback is really appreciated,

is this a leagal restriction or technical restriction? I see FAS3270 process controller module is the same with V3270 PCM in physical point.

Hi @wang,

for what I know it's a tecnical restriction: the chassis/controller of a FAS will contain different VPD (Vital Product Data) than the ones of a V-series machine, thus rendering the two incompatible.

Since these values are checked when the system boots up, there is a chance that mixing a FAS controller and a V-series chassis (or the other way around), will prevent the controller from booting.

Lorenzo
