Hi guys,
I am looking at proposing that we purchase an additional FAS2xxx for our DR site. Since it will be used for production as well as holding Snapmirror copies, it seems appropriate to get a clustered configuration. However, we don't need a lot of disk storage so I was planning to make do with a basic installation of 12TB of built-in disks.
Am I right in speculating that this will be somewhat wasteful due to the need to assign a spare and an aggregate to each controller ? If this is true I will have to dedicate one spare plus two disks to the second controller for a RAID-4 based root volume, and one spare plus two disks for RAID-DP on the first controller leaving 6 disks out of the 12 for storage. One option, I guess, would be to have two RAID4 aggregates of five disks each and two hot spares, yielding 8 disks for data which is almost the same as I'd get with RAID-DP and a single controller.
