Hi,

We have requirement of a NAS box to one of our customer. We are able to match the Spec of customer but challenge is customer have asked for

Gigabit Ethernet ports (Fiber). So will the FC ports which are there in NetApp controllers will also work as a Gigabit Ethernet through fiber optical or it just work with SAN switch or environment.

So my question is: 1) IF the FC ports are in the controller will not work with Gigabit Ethernet, what could be the next option?

Please let me know the reply ASAP or if need any more details.

Thanks in Advance

Sunil

hi,

the FC ports on the controllers can be FC target (for SAN) or FC initiator (for using FC shelves). It cannot be used as fiber Gigabit Ethernet port.

cheers,

Jacint

You should be able to get interfaces which support most of the 1000BaseX specs, including the fibre based ones (SX, at least)

You will also be able to get 10GbE from 10GBaseSX cards and FCOE cards.
