Trouble starting installation of vCenter Server 4.0 (in MS SQL Server 2005 setup)

Hi,

I'm trying to install vCenter Server 4.0 on Windows 2008 host.

In the step to where SQL server is being installed, it fails with an error message. (see attached image)

Anybody seen this? How do I fix this?

Regards,

Prasad

Hi

I haven't run into this myself. But you could check whether the media used to install the SQL Server binaries is consistent, as any corruption to the DVD disks or hard disks will hamper the setup. This problem occurs because the folders that contain the files that are required during the installation of SQL Server 2005 do not have a correct layout.

Here's an old KB on that

Hi,

I have successfully installed the same instance of software on a another Windows 2008 host.

Not sure if it was specific to this system.

Will try the KB article today & update you.

Workaround:

Downloaded SQL server 2005 SP3, separately & installed it first.

Then restarted the vCenter Server 4.0 & it worked fine.

Thanks,
