You can use SnapDrive software - if you have the license for it. Otherwise, the disk will show up if you add the WWNs of the server to the igroup on the filer and the zoning is correct. You'll just need to scan for new hardware.

Are you trying to assign disks directly to the VM from the filer or are the disks attached to the ESX host and you want them assigned to the VM?

Has this server connected to an iSCSI lun before? Are you using a dedicated network to talk to the filer? Is there any firewall between the server and filer?

If you do a vol status on the containing volume and a lun show on the LUN, what does it show you? Is there still a clone of the LUN that is offline? What does the snap list show?

sis does this to my 2020 filer. But I would have thought a 3240 would have more juice. Although, it might be similar to a scrub where it uses as much CPU as it can if there is no other ongoing activity.

You can also use "netstat -a" on the filer to give some info. Like showmount it won't be 100% but between the two of those commands you should get a good idea.

Do you have any spare disks in the aggregate? If so, the failed disk would have copied its data over to that one and the disk you are replacing will become the new spare. You can replace the spare 300 GB with a 144 GB disk. If you have no spare disks, then pulling the 300 GB disk and replacing it with a 144 GB will trigger a rebuild, but should be ok as long as only 144 GB worth of that disk was in use. You can verify which disks are being used in the aggregate by running "aggr status -r".

Ok, so, is it that you are trying to determine how to deal with the problem: Server A -> Connecting to Filer A Server A still on the network and Filer A still on the network but Server A can't find a route to Filer A anymore? I don't think NetApp really plans for that kind of error as it is more of a network redundancy issue. Would Server A be able to get to Filer B in that case anyway?

You can replace the disk with a 300 GB FC. If the disk is used an aggregate with 144 GB FC, then only 144 GB of the 300 GB disk will actively be used.

I haven't worked with the 2008 MPIO yet (The first 2008 server has just been setup with fibre so I'll have a crash course soon). But is there any sort of MPIO interface that you can look at any of the details? There is typically a way to specify the preferred path (you can do it in ESX and SnapDrive). And maybe Windows 2008 in its infinite wisdom has choosen the wrong path as the primary.

DOT: 7.3.3 RLM: 4 I've had this problem previously but I was hoping that the DOT upgrade (from 7.2.4) and RLM update (from v 3) would fix it but it still exists. When I try to log into the filer using the RLM connection, userid: naroot password: root password, it keeps saying that access is denied. The partner filer with the same settings works ok. I've tried creating a local test user in the Administrators group and logging in with that but no go.

From what I've read in the past, the order of devices listed after the "logged in on" information is random and doesn't have to do with the path the lun is using. And that it should use the interface on the filer the lun is hosted on as a default. Can you reset the counters on the luns and watch to see if the partner OPS grow?

As far as I know, the SAS adapters can be updated non-disrutpive as each disk has two controllers. If you run the storage download shelf command to the particular storage adapter, it will check and verify that only one module requires the update.
