I know it is possible to use snapmirror between FAS and N Series, however, has anyone layered VMware SRM above this? We have a need to do this, however, looking for some further information before committing.

I have a system configured for multi protocol CIFS. A windows user coming from a windows client accessing an ntfs style qtree via a cifs share is being mapped to a unix user (and failing as I have not setup usermap.cfg / passwd etc etc), is this correct? My understanding was a mapping would only take place if the qtree was of unix security with unix perms.

Is it possible to move a snapmirror destination volume from one aggregate to another with disrupting the snapmirror relationships? DOT8.1RC2 Regards

Yes, the conversion begins immediately, however, if I create a 2nd clone before the first conversion is complete the 2nd conversion waits until the first is complete.

Sure, already done. When the clone is initiated a number of tasks begin: [###:wafl.scan.start:info]: Starting splitting of the inofile on volume ### [###:wafl.scan.64bit.upgrade.start:notice]: The 64-bit upgrade scanner has started running on volume ### Once this is complete a 64bit upgrade begins: [###:wafl.scan.start:info]: Starting 64bit upgrade on volume ### Depending on the size of the volume the time to complete the task varies. I have noticed that DOT will only do one upgrade at a time. i.e. I created a number of clones but each upgrade waits until the previous has finished – The end result is a 64bit flexclone of a 32bit parent. Lastly, the flexclone seems to use a little more space than a native 64bit to 64bit clone, or this is what I am assuming as space within the aggr does reduce more than expected with a flexclone.

Great, thanks. How does this affect a flexclone of the dest snapmirrored volume? This will be a 32bit volume? Will this cause issues within a 64bit aggr?

I am using VSM to replicate 32bit src volumes (7.3.3) to 64bit dest (8.1). Once the initialize is complete my dest vols revert back to 32bit. Is this expected behaviour and how can I rectify this?

Hi Francesco Moving off the original topic. You mentioned a 2 node c mode system, within NetApp is the future c mode and should we be looking to install ALL new systems (big or small) in c mode? Do you know where I can find a good introduction (documentation etc) to c mode to begin my learning? Regards

Does NetApp support this as yet with ontap 8.1RC2 7-mode? VSC 2.2 lists the controllers as VAAI supported, however my NFS data stores list not supported.

Ok, from your comment I assume IOM6 <> IOM3 are compatible? I have recently setup a new 2240-4 with 2 x DS4234 shelfs in a single stack - I noticed an error stating disks were owned by both controllers - My cable config is correct, however, I used wiregauge which states IOM3 and IOM6E shelfs can not be on the same port - This is reported for both SAS ports 0a and 0b....????? How does the system recognise the aggrs / vols from the existing trays? - Is it a good idea to downgrade the new system to the same DOT version for the duration of the work, then upgrade once all is working well?

I am looking to remove and attach a number of shelfs with containing aggregates from a 2020 onto a 2040. The 2020 is running DOT 7.3 and I am thinking about downgrading the new 2040 to the same 7.3 for the duration of the work. I do not need to worry about the internal disks as they do not form an aggregate with disks from the shelfs + all data has been migrated to shelf based aggregates. I am looking for some documentation on this procedure or some advice from the communities to assist in my planning.

Yes this could be an option. On new 2240s which have SATA in the head I want to move the root vol from pre configured aggrs on the internal SATA to new aggrs on the smaller SAS drives within shelfs. I can then structure the aggrs as I see fit. Once I delete the old aggr0 can I rename the new aggr containing the moved root vol back to aggr0?

I am looking for the procedure for a fresh install of ontap 8.x-7 mode on new systems. This is so I can re position the root aggr. Where can I find this information? Also, anything I should be aware off?
